Our wonderful client Sue, 55, from Liverpool, prevented a slide to Type 1 diabetes after training with us in Liverpool. On top she also lost a sensational 2 stone. Here is her journey…
When Sue decided to seek help from a PT, a doctor had told her that she was on the verge of being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
In response Sue said that she was “going to just stop eating biscuits.” When the doctor told her that more drastic action would be needed, and that exercise and fitness might help to bring her risk down and mean that Sue didn’t have to take so much medication to manage her diabetes, Sue decided it was time to try something new. She already had Type 2 diabetes and didn’t want to slide into Type 1.
She came across Speke gym location and decided to enquire to see how our training and nutrition programmes, matched with the support of a personal trainer could help her.
Sue decided to join and give it a go. When she started with her personal trainer Connor, her HbA1c readings were as high as 97.
Once Sue started her training programme her HbA1c reading began to drop. Her PT Connor designed a bespoke training and nutrition plan and started to better manage her sleep and stress.
After a year of training and work with Connor, Sue got a reading back of 41 meaning she had almost halved her reading from when she started.
As a result, she has reduced her medication drastically and has lost an incredible 2 stone in weight.
Speaking about the process Sue said, “It sounds dramatic, but it really has changed my life. When my doctor saw my new levels, she was gob smacked!”
Talking about her experience of joining the gym and training with a PT she said, “I couldn’t have done it without them. I have such a good laugh with everyone at the gym and I consider them as friends now. We have fun, we train hard and the atmosphere is really good and I feel really comfortable there.”
For those who worry that a personal training gym could be intimidating Sue said “It is not intimidating at all, it’s just great. The whole team just cheer you on.”
Sue trained with her daughter Gemma who achieved her own life-altering results. After a year her daughter dropped 100lbs and went from a size 26 to a size 12.
On training with her daughter Sue said, “When I started training with my daughter together with Connor I didn’t see how it could work when we both had different goals, but it did! In fact, it was more fun and we pushed each other further and it was such a motivation both in training and in our nutrition doing it together and competing against each other really worked too and kept us focused.”
Sue is not stopping now. She plans to keep going to see what more she can achieve.
Absolute Body Solutions owner Connor O’Brien said of Sue’s results, “What Sue has achieved here with Connor is nothing short of amazing. Sue has given everything to her training with us. She has been determined from day one to achieve the very best results she could and she has achieved this and more”
“Connor has done incredibly well at managing her training and nutrition and these results are fantastic. Congratulations Sue.”
The whole team were so proud that Sue’s story even made the news.
