One of the nations favourite drinks to wake up to in the morning or enjoy out during the day, but with so many varieties around you may want to be aware of the calorie content in some specialist coffees.
There are so many varieties of coffee available these days, it can be confusing what to have. If you are trying to watch your calorie intake or you’re on a stricter nutrition plan, we would recommend the following top tips to ensuring that your coffee is as low calorie as possible.
Try an alternative milk
In most coffee shops the go to milk will be full fat. This will take a low calorie black coffee and increase the calorie content, particularly if you opt for a coffee with a high milk content.
Ask the barista for an alternative. Try skimmed milk or almond milk, both of which are lower in calories.
Try avoiding it altogether and see if you become used to it.
Downsize your order
Most coffee shops have an array of sizes from very large to standard. To save on calories but still enjoy your favourite coffee drink, opt for the smaller sized cups.
Do this if you tend to have many cups a week.
You may have less, but you will still be able to enjoy it and work the calories into your weekly plan.
Go easy on the syrup
A go-to element of modern coffees – syrup.
If you are used to asking for this to be included, start asking for fewer pumps. Ideally try to avoid having syrup altogether, as this will increase your calorie intake.
Stay sweet without sugar
After dispensing with the syrup, next try to avoid too much sugar in your coffee.
Replace granulated sugar with plant-based or sugar free alternatives.
This will allow you to enjoy a coffee without the extra calories contained in traditional sugar.
