Being confined indoors does not mean that we cannot continue to keep active. Many of us will miss going to the gym but now we must seek other ways to stay fit and healthy. One thing to remember is NEAT.
None Exercise Activity Thermogenesis – put simply, this is all the exercise and calories you burn naturally in the day outside of the gym e.g. walking, breathing, shopping, cooking etc.
Increasing your NEAT will elevate the number of calories your burn, this means more food, greater fat loss and research has shown moving more throughout the day helps reduce stress and promote a healthy cardiovascular system.
So even if you are in isolation, here are some of the best ways to keep your NEAT up:
- Gardening
- Washing the car
- DIY and decorating
- Thoroughly cleaning the house, hoovering
- Daily home workout
- Walk – the government is still encouraging people to go outside and get in a daily bout of exercise, whilst respecting the distance advice. A good walk will keep your step count up and enable you to get some fresh air and hopefully some sun.
Remember, now is more important than even to eat as well as possible and stay active.
