We see it all the time in the gym, people doing the bare minimum training and then moaning about not getting results. Why hasn’t their physique changed? They are still going the gym right?
There are a few things to talk about here: intensity of training, the type of training, adaptation of the body and the mindset of the individual.
The first thing is intensity of training. If you compare lifting the pink dumbbells (2kg) compared to the 6kg dumbbells, what do you think will be more challenging and put your body under more stress? The 6kg dumbbells is of course the correct answer. This will trigger one of the mechanisms of hypertrophy (development of muscle tissue) called mechanical tension. If you run at 5kmph on the treadmill or 12kmph on the treadmill, which one will cause the greatest stress to the body? You guessed it – 12kmph. Running at the higher intensity will push your adaptation mechanisms to adapt to the environment and change. You’re body, by training at the these high intensities, will have to change to be able to cope with new stress.
The type of training you do also plays a huge role in shaping the body of your dreams. Whether it’s that peach shaped bum or those sculpted shoulders, how you achieve this is all down to your training. To achieve muscle development you need to be lifting weights. Now, this doesn’t mean you will be doing an Arnold Schwarzenegger workout, weights only need to be used to generate hypertrophy. It can be in a circuit fashion, to keep the cardio high or you can do splits and then circuits after. Basically there are tons of ways to set up your training but it should incorporate some kind of basic weight lifting.
Now the topic of adaptation and mind-set. I’ve combined the final two because to force adaptation you also need a “never give up attitude”. Adaptation comes by combing the first two, intensity of training and the type of training. The intensity needs to be high. You need to be pushing yourself with the weight that you lift (with correct form of course). The type of training also needs to be one that you find particularly hard. The heart should be pounding and sweat pouring. Your muscles will be burning, your body will feel weak and you may be shaking a little, this is when you need to dig deep and make the next few sets count. The people I mentioned at the start would never get to this level and would never dream of pushing past it. This is why their body remains untransformed.
If you are pushing yourself to these limits then an adaptation will have to occur. This will burn body fat and develop muscle tissue. If you are willing to dig deep and push the boundaries of your training, then contact us at Absolute Body Solutions. We are here to deliver nothing less than a transformation.
