Today (01/10/2019) is International Coffee Day so in celebration we thought we would run through some of the positives of drinking a healthy amount of coffee in your diet as well as a couple of tips on choice of coffee. For those getting in shape, simply remember to keep sugar & milk to a minimum in each cup.
Caffeine is said to be good for us in so many ways. The main reasons are said to be:
- Caffeine gives you a good pre-workout energy boost
- It can lower the risk of heart disease
- It can improve body composition and elevates fat burning
One thing to keep in mind if you buy coffee every day is the calorie content in your chosen beverage.
For example, a coffee caramel macchiato from a standard coffee shop contains around 240kcals and 34g of sugar. To lessen your calorie intake, if that is the nutrition plan you are on, why not try a sugar free caramel macchiato with almond milk that comes in at 130cal with 17g sugar.
Over one week you would save 550cal a week (if having one, 5 days a week).
To really reduce your calorie intake you could opt for an Americano or black coffee.
All in all, drinking coffee is not bad and you can do it even if you are following a nutrition plan in the gym. With some simple tweaks, coffee can be guilt free.
