On a lot of our nutrition plans, we suggest drinking lemon water first thing in the morning. Water in general is incredibly important if you are training and even if you are not. Consuming a healthy amount of it will reap its own benefits.
So, what is so good about adding a wedge of lemon to your water in the morning?
Most people sleep between 6 to 8 hours a night. During this time no water or fluids have been consumed so it’s easy to wake up slightly dehydrated. By drinking lemon water as soon as you wake up, this will instantly hydrate you and the lemon will help with detoxification.
Lemon water also is said to aid digestion. The citrus in flavonoids in lemon, aid the acid in the stomach to break down food, which may improve overall digestion.
Finally, lemons are high in Vitamin C which significantly boosts your immune system. This is good for fighting colds. (Great as we approach the winter months).
Overall, water is essential for everyone and should be drank sensibly. Adding some lemon in the mornings can bring with it added benefits that could improve your overall health.
